COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The violent domestic incident Sunday morning in Butler Township is part of the reason Branch County Sheriff John Pollack feels there is a need for additional road patrol deputies to help with coverage in the county.
Pollack told the Branch County Township Supervisors Association during their meeting Monday night that Coldwater Police had to back up the Michigan State Police because there were no other units available.
He pointed out his deputies had to be called in early October 5 because the State Police was tied up with a traffic accident.
Pollack says this is not the fault of the State Police, but he has proposed adding two deputies in his 2018 budget.
The Sheriff said the jail count included 22 females Friday which is considered too many. He added of the 13 women arrested over the weekend, only four were able to bond out. The jail count on Tuesday morning was 141 prisoners which included 25 females. Pollack says the trend does not appear to be slowing and he fears the county will eventually be sued over the jail.
