COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – After 35 years of service to the Community Health Center of Branch County, ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital and the community, Laura Kopacz is retiring.
Her last day is Wednesday, January 24. She started her career in health care at Coldwater in 1988 right after graduating from Kellogg Community College.
Kopacz began on the surgical floor and then transferred to the emergency center. Nursing runs in her family.
Her grandmother was an LPN at Bixby Hospital in Adrian and her sister was a Flight Nurse.
Kopacz was the cornerstone of the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program (SANE) that she started in 1999 while working in the emergency room. She is SANE-A and SANE-P certified for both adult/adolescent and pediatric patients.
She says, “The goal is that physically and emotionally they leave in a better place than when they came in. These are special patients that require special care. It has been my pleasure caring for so many of them all of these years.”
