COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Detroit man who entered a no contest plea to a charge of attempted transportation of a female prostitute was sentenced Monday in Branch County Circuit Court. 39-year-old Frederick Johnson was ordered to serve 20 months to five years in the Michigan Department of Corrections.
Johnson was one of three people from outside of Branch County who were arrested in the case following a Michigan State Police investigation which started with a traffic stop last March on U.S. 12 in Coldwater. One of the suspects later died from an apparent drug overdose.
In exchange for his plea, three others charges against Johnson were dismissed by prosecutors.
Johnson was on parole at the time of his arrest so the sentence he received on Monday will be consecutive to whatever time he has left from the previous conviction.
