QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Michigan State Police say there was gunfire in a drunken domestic argument in Branch County early Sunday morning. The incident was reported around 4:00 a.m. yesterday at a home on Clarendon Road in Butler Township.
The 29-year old woman who lives at the residence was booked at the Branch County jail on a preliminary charge of felonious assault with a weapon. Her name is being withheld pending arraignment today in District Court.
According to Trooper Oliver Lynard, the suspect and her 37-year old boyfriend had been drinking and arguing and the woman claimed she had been assaulted and told her boyfriend to leave. Lynard said the man left the house and went to a garage to make a phone call, and that’s when the suspect appeared, armed with a nine millimeter handgun. During a struggle, Lynard said the weapon discharged once, hitting the ceiling.
The boyfriend told State Police she aimed the gun at him, a charge that she denied. Lynard said the man was bitten in the arm and punched in the face by the woman but he didn’t want to press any charges.
Michigan State Police were assisted at the scene by Coldwater City Police.
