COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater closed out the home portion of its schedule in style, as they defeated Hastings 41-8 on “Fight the Fight, Find the Cure” Night at Cardinal Field. The purple-clad Cardinals set the tone of the game on their first possession, on a 2-play, 75 yard drive that ended with a 67-yard Logan Fee touchdown run. One week after rushing to a season-low 11 yards, Fee led the way with 9 carries for 131 yards and a touchdown. Fee also caught a 13-yard TD pass from Cole Targgart, who finished 1-for-3 for 13 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. Damon Beckhusen had 10 carries for 76 yards and two touchdowns, and Ethan Wiley had 8 carries for 41 yards and a score as the Cards outran the Saxons 374-159. Mohamed Salem kicked his first and second career field goals from 29 and 32 yards, respectively, in the fourth quarter. Zach Miller led the defense with 10 tackles as Coldwater improved to 5-3 overall, 4-3 in the Interstate 8, tied with Parma Western for third in the final league standings.
Harper Creek won the Interstate 8 title, and stayed undefeated on the season, by holding off arch-rival Marshall 27-20.

Union City qualified for the MHSAA Football Playoffs with a 54-20 win against Concord at Alumni Field. Austin Mosher’s 23 carries for 226 yards and 2 touchdowns accounted for over half of the Chargers’ total rushing output of 408 yards. Gavin Hooker had 9 carries for 88 yards and a touchdown, and Deacon Day had 3 carries for 7 yards and a score. Josh Watson was 8-for-13 passing for 70 yards and 3 touchdowns while also rushing for 81 yards on 7 carries. Larson Kever caught all three of Watson’s TD passes; he finished with 4 receptions for 31 yards while also leading the defense with 9 tackles and an interception. Union City improved to 6-2 overall and finished tied with Springport for second place in the Big 8 at 5-2.
Springport broke a 20-20 halftime tie with a pair of scores and held off visiting Quincy 40-27. Bryce Ruhl had 13 carries for 185 yards and 2 touchdowns, Jon Purvis had 11 carries for 76 yards along with a 33-yard reception, and Caleb McCavit had 10 carries for 28 yards and two touchdowns while also going 7-for-14 passing for 120 yards and 2 interceptions. Ryan Gibson had a 45-yard reception, and Evan Henning led the defense with 9 tackles. Quincy dropped to 5-3 overall and tied with Homer for fourth place in the Big 8 at 4-3.
Homer kept Bronson winless on the season by defeating the Vikings 49-6 at Charles Hilton Field. And Big 8 champion Reading ran the table in the conference by doubling up Jonesville 44-22.
In 8-man football, Tekonsha dropped to 4-4 with a 44-14 loss at Bellevue.
