COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility and Rehabilitation has repaid the $500,000 they borrowed from Branch County almost three months ahead of schedule.
Maple Lawn Controller Jessica Worden says their board voted 3-0 on Wednesday to pay off the remaining $125,000 that it owed the county and that the money was back in the county’s hands on Thursday.
A resolution passed by the Branch County Board of Commissioners in April of 2023 called for Maple Lawn to make a full $500,000 repayment to the county by May 1, 2024.
The Commissioners approved a $250,000 advance at that time. Another $250,000 advance was made to Maple Lawn this past August due to a three payroll month.
Commissioners voted in August of 2022 to advance Maple Lawn up to $1 million to help the facility deal with financial difficulties. A cut in residents during the COVID-19 pandemic was cited as the main reason Maple Lawn got into a financial squeeze.
Maple Lawn also went to the mat with the State of Michigan when they got a notice of a Medicade Interim Payment adjustment in June of 2022. The reconciliation amount for the previous three years came out to over $874,000.
Worden said their census as of Thursday was 108 residents.
Branch County voters gave a big thumbs down to a five year millage request for Maple Lawn in November of 2022.
