COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Prosecutors have filed six charges including four counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct against a Quincy man for alleged crimes between 2015 and 2023.
Besides the first degree counts, 41-year-old Shawn Michael Benton has been charged with second degree C.S.C. and accosting children for immoral purposes following a Michigan State Police investigation.
According to Branch County court documents, the alleged victims were two females who were born in 2008 and 2009. The report went on to indicate they were about seven or eight years old when the alleged assaults started.
Benton denied the allegations about the sexual assaults when he was interviewed by the State Police.
Not guilty pleas were entered on his behalf during a Branch County District Court arraignment on Monday. Bond was set at $100,000. If he should post bond, Benton was ordered not to have any contact with the alleged victims and he is to have no unsupervised contact with any minor child. He also can not leave the State of Michigan.
A probable cause hearing was scheduled for February 15 with a preliminary exam set for February 20.
