GILEAD TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – Except for some final touches, work is all but finished on the Bronson Fire Department’s new satellite station and the Gilead Township Hall at the intersection of Gilead Lake and Southern Roads.
Bronson Fire Chief Scott Wilber delivered the news to the Bronson City Council on Monday night.
A new tanker has also arrived.
Wilber says they are planning to hold a open house this spring once all of the work is wrapped up.
The $140,000 satellite fire station was approved last June during the Bronson Area Fire Association’s annual budget meeting.
It’s felt the satellite station will help reduce response times, provide access to more water and promote mutual aid agreements with other departments.
The satellite station was built on five acres leased for $1 from the Branch County Road Commission for 99 years.
There was a lot of donated work for the project. Rusty Smith coordinated the contractors while Dan Hershberger Construction put up the building. Chuck Shimp Excavating also donated labor.
Gilead, Noble, Bethel, and Bronson Townships helped fund the cost of construction.
