BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson Vikings used a 19-9 first quarter on Tuesday night to defeat Branch County rival Quincy 64-53 in the “Battle for U.S. 12”. The victory for the Vikings in the Big 8 Conference boys basketball contest snapped a three game losing streak.
After the fast start by the Vikings, Quincy battled back as they outscored Bronson 20-16 in the second quarter to trail 35-29 at the half. Quincy got the deficit down to 46-44 with about a minute gone in the fourth quarter. Bronson finally got some space as Saylor Wotta scored a quick five points to build the lead to 54-46 and the Orioles were unable to recover.
Bronson’s Kam Brackett scored a game-high 18 points while Dom Kiomento had 15 points and Wotta finished with a double-double as he had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Grant Carter led the Orioles with 12 points while Corey Turner had nine points and Brandon Miner grabbed 11 rebounds.
Bronson improves to 12-6 overall and 8-3 in the Big 8. Quincy drops to 8-11 overall and 3-7 in the conference.
Also in boys basketball on Tuesday night, Union City defeated Calhoun Christian 66-46 on Senior Night for the Chargers. Union City has won three of their last four and are now 11-8 overall.
Tekonsha was beaten by Mendon 60-27.
In non-conference girls basketball, Bronson defeated winless Portage Northern 55-25 as the Vikings improved to 12-4.
Union City got their second win of the season as the Chargers defeated Calhoun Christian 33-24. The Chargers are now 2-15.
Tekonsha lost to Mendon 52-21.
