HILLSDALE COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Office has issued a statement on the latest phone scam.
The department has gotten numerous complaints from Hillsdale County residents who are receiving phone calls from someone identifying themselves as “Sgt. Cooper.”
The scammer is advising people they have a warrant for their arrest and they need to pay money or bitcoin over the phone “for their bond”.
Hillsdale County Sheriff Scott Hodshire is reminding everybody to NEVER give anyone money via cards or bitcoin over the phone.
Law enforcement agencies will never call and say you have a warrant for your arrest.
