COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals welcomed Pennfield to the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium on Senior Night and split the varsity basketball games against the Panthers.
The 3-pointers were raining for the Pennfield boys, converting ten from beyond the arc as they earned the 59-34 win. The Panthers led 21-7 after the first quarter and never looked back.
Senior Keavyn Zabonick started for the Cardinals and made the most of the opportunity, leading the team with 7 points and 5 rebounds. Ayden Dirschell added 6 points and 5 boards, while senior Zach Coffing had a team-high 6 rebounds.
Coldwater fell to 6-15 overall, 4-7 in the Interstate 8, and will close the regular season next Tuesday at Harper Creek.

Coldwater jumped out to an 18-7 first quarter lead and sank nine 3-pointers in their 48-15 win over Pennfield in the varsity girls game. The Lady Cards led 18-7 after the first quarter and did not let up the rest of the way, as they held the Panthers to 16.7% shooting (6/36) on the night.
Mya Porter had 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists, while Elli Foley also had 11 points and added 4 boards, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Elli Anderson added 10 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, and 3 blocks, and Coley Burkhardt had a team-high 10 rebounds.
Coldwater improved to 16-3 overall, 8-3 in the Interstate 8, and will host Harper Creek next Tuesday to close out the league portion of their schedule.

Pennfield won the JV girls game 26-24 despite Coldwater’s fourth quarter comeback attempt, which saw the Cardinals outscore the Panthers 14-4.
The Cardinal freshman girls lost at Portage Northern 32-22. Savannah Hayward led the way with 10 points.
