COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A line of showers and thunderstorms accompanied with gusty winds blew through Coldwater and the Branch County area during the 8 PM hour, knocking out power to CBPU customers, as well over 5,000 Consumers Energy customers, mainly to the south of the City.
The National Weather Service had issued a Special Weather Statement shortly before the storms passed through the area, advising of strong winds up to 50 miles per hour.
According to Jeff Budd of the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities, the power outages affecting all CBPU customers is due to a transmission system issue, which lies outside the BPU’s responsibility. As of 11:30PM Saturday, the BPU hopes to have power restored by 2:30AM Sunday.
As of 9:45PM Saturday, Consumers Energy estimates power restoration to their customers by early Sunday morning.
