READING, MI (WTVB) – A Reading woman has been charged with a felony count of theft in Indiana after she allegedly stole thousands of dollars from a man she was supposed to be caring for.
Indiana State Police say 45-year-old Michelle Lynn Alexander was appointed as a guardian by Noble County Circuit Court in August 2015 for a then 59 year old man from Kendallville, who suffered from declining mental and physical health.
It is alleged by authorities that between October and December 2015 Alexander accessed the man’s bank account and used over $51,000 worth of his disability checks for her own financial benefit.
The charge was filed after a four month investigation by Indiana State Police detectives.
Alexander turned herself in at the Noble County Jail September 24, 2017, and has since been released on bond.
