BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The 75th anniversary of the Bronson Theater was celebrated on Sunday.
Those who attended were able to take tours and watch the musical “Words and Music” which was the first movie shown in the theater in February of 1949.
The film was based on the partnership of Richard Rogers and Lorenz Hart and featured such stars as Lena Horne, Mickey Rooney, Judy Garland, Perry Como and Gene Kelly.
Bronson Community Foundation Board Member Patrick Bird says the building is still special.
Bird says when the building opened, it was a cutting edge theater.
There is still restoration work planned.
The Bronson Theater replaced the old Coliseum Theater in 1949. After years of serving the community as a movie theater, it was given to the Bronson Community Foundation in 1987.
