COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A downtown Coldwater building was damaged in a late Monday night fire which investigators say was caused by a shorted electrical outlet.
Coldwater Fire Marshal Steve Tral says the fire at 22 West Pearl Street was reported at 10:28 p.m.. Fire and smoke was showing from the west side of the structure when the first units arrived.
The fire was called under control at 11:13 p.m. and crews remained on the scene until 12:49 a.m..
No injuries were reported. Coldwater got automatic mutual aid from the Quincy Fire Department. Assistance was also provided by Bronson and Lakeland firefighters as well as Coldwater Police, Lifecare Ambulance, the Coldwater B.P.U. and Michigan Gas.
Trall says damage to the building owned by Norbert Strobel was estimated at $60,000.
He added the fire originated in the store owned by Kaleel Salem on the first floor and that was where the heaviest damage took place.
