Ora Swick Jr., 80, Tekonsha, passed away Monday, March 4, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his family, under the care of Oaklawn Hospice.
The family is hosting a memorial service celebrating Ora’s life will take place at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2024, at the Union Church in Tekonsha with a luncheon at the church to follow. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Tekonsha at a later date.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 18, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m., also at the church.
The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation, Union City.
Ora was born on April 3, 1943, to Ora and Lulu (Cady) Swick, Sr. in Tekonsha Township. He graduated from Tekonsha High School with the Class of 1962. On June 6, 1964 he married Sandra Duckett at the old First Baptist Church in Tekonsha. Ora worked at Sherer-Gillette in Marshall and then Tekonsha Engineering, retiring in 2006.
He captained a charter fishing boat on Lake Michigan and was a long-time member of the Turtle Creek Golf league in Burlington. Ora enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, snowmobiling, boating, but most of all spending time with his family and attending their sporting events and his grandson’s performances.
After retirement, Ora and Sandy spent winters in their home in Clermont, FL where he golfed daily.
Surviving are his wife, Sandy; his daughter, Shannon (Chris) Vreeland of Marshall; his grandson, Josh Swick Vreeland of New York, NY; his sister Janet Gilbert; his nephews, Ken Swick, Jack (Angie) Wages, Brian (Katie) Wages, Dean (Kami) Gilbert, Dan (Erin) Gilbert and Michael Duckett; his nieces, DeAnna (Terry) Hylard, Debbie (Mark) Richar, Mya Kavanaugh and his many much-loved great nieces and nephews and their children.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Howard and Earl Swick; his in-laws, Jack and Sylvia Wages, Cletus Gilbert, Bud and Karen Duckett, and Barbara Swick Borton; his nephews, David Swick, Eric Wages, Brad Wages; and his nieces Andrea Roerig and Laurie Leach.
