COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Quincy man with a criminal record in three states will spend between 23 months and four years in the Michigan Department of Corrections following his latest run in with the law.
29-year-old Rastravanti Dacosta was sentenced Monday in Branch County Circuit on charges of larceny of a building and being in possession of ammunition after he was one of two persons trying to pass a bad check at a local credit union. As part of a plea agreement, two other charges were dropped by prosecutors and Dacosta was given credit for 150 days served.
Meanwhile, Dacosta’s probation was revoked in another case involving charges of attempted uttering and publishing and forgery. Those charges stemmed from an attempt to set up a check kiting operation. He was given a nine month sentence last November as well as three years of probation.
Dacosta was given credit for 420 days served in the 2016 case. His time for the probation violation will be concurrent to the most recent charges.
Branch County Prosecutor Ralph Kimble compared Dacosta to a gnat you can’t swat on Monday adding that the defendant was always doing something criminally stupid.
Dacosta has a criminal background in Illinois and California. His record includes two felony and six misdemeanor convictions.
