JACKSON, MI (WTVB) – The annual Jackson Invitational Cross Country Meet was suspended Saturday after only three divisional races due to the high heat, humidity, and several cases of heat exhaustion. However, before the competition was suspended, Coldwater’s Kathy Potter and Elka Machan earned medals in the Girl’s Division Two Race. Potter placed 10th; Machan took 14th. As a team, the Lady Cards finished 10th.
Bronson, Quincy and Union City runners competed at the Pittsford Invitational on Saturday. The races were divided into four grade classes. Quincy was sixth out of 14 teams overall in the boys meet while Bronson was seventh and Union City finished 14th. Quincy was fourth out of nine teams in the girls standings. Bronson and Union City did not have enough runners for team scores in the girls meet.
Branch County boys who earned medals were Quincy’s Nathan Nohr, Joshua Pepper, T.J. Adams, Carter Moore, Ian Trail and Erik Butchart; Bronson’s Colin Ransbottom, Hunter Trine, Daniel Barajas, Socorro Aguilar, Mario Sanchez, Luis Ortiz and Ben Thomas Grate; and Union City’s Bobby Hurley.
Quincy’s Madelyn Allman won the Junior Girls race. Other Branch County medal winners for the girls were Quincy’s Meri Michael, Harmony Harpster, Alyssa Smith, Avery Rufenacht and Harley Daniels; Bronson’s Meghan Vaughn, Brenda Martinez, Kaitlyn Czajkowski, Xochitl Garcia and Union City’s Marionna Bigelow.
