BLACKMAN TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals got back on the right track Friday as they jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead and cruised past Jackson Northwest 35-7. Coldwater had 404 yards of total offense. Damon Beckhusen led a balanced rushing attack with 83 yards. Cole Targgart passed for 132 yards. Cardinal rushing TD’s were scored by Logan Fee, Targgart, Beckhusen and Oliver Winter. Targgart hooked up with Brady Beckhusen on a touchdown pass in the third quarter. Zach Miller led the defense with 10 tackles including five for losses. Coldwater improved to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the Interstate 8.

The Union City Chargers are within one victory of qualifying for the post season after they shut out Jonesville 44-0. Austin Mosher rushed for 158 yards and two touchdowns while quarterback Josh Watson passed for 167 yards and three scores. Colton Johns had nine tackles as the Union City defense forced four turnovers from Jonesville. The Chargers are 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the Big 8 which leaves them in a first place tie with Reading
The Reading Rangers own the Victory Bell following their 13-12 victory over arch rival Quincy. Two failed conversion attempts following the Quincy touchdowns were the difference as the Orioles dropped to 3-2 overall and 2-2 in the Big 8. The Quincy touchdowns came on a 14 yard pass from Caleb McCavit to William Dunn and four yard run by Bryce Ruhl. Both teams were held to less than 200 yards of total offense. Reading is 4-0 in the Big 8 and 4-1 overall.

Coldwater finished second out of 11 teams on Friday at the Jackson Area Invitational hosted by Jackson Lumen Christi at the Cascades Golf Course. Lumen Christi won the event with a team total of 348 followed by Coldwater at 366. Coldwater was led by Jayla Goodwin and Claire Sheppard who each shot 90’s which was good enough to finish in ninth place for the tournament. Coldwater’s Hunter Jenkot just finished out of the top 10 with a 91, Kelly Warner shot a 95 and Molly Smith rounded out Coldwater’s scoring with a 100. Coldwater travels to the Island Hills Golf Course on Tuesday to participate in the Sturgis Invitational.
