Parma Western 28, (at) Coldwater 21
COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals were 21 seconds away from posting their 11th consecutive win against Parma Western when disaster struck. Western’s Landon Raczkowski blocked Austin Spray’s punt attempt and returned it 34 yards for the game winning score as the Panthers stunned the Cardinals 28-21 at Cardinal Field.
The Panthers racked up 409 yards of total offense, compared to 238 for Coldwater. Western quarterback Steele Fortress was singlehandedly responsible for three-quarters of his team’s offensive output, with 30 carries for 199 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns while also going 8/12 passing for 124 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. For the Cardinals, Logan Fee led the ground game with 12 carries for 41 yards. Our McDonald’s Player of the Game, Griffen Olmstead, had 4 carries for 38 yards and a touchdown while also collecting a team-high 13 tackles along with Fee. Damon Beckhusen had 6 carries for 32 yards and a score, Cole Targgart was 5/9 passing for 99 yards while also scoring on a 2-yard QB keeper.
With the loss, Coldwater drops to 3-1 overall, 2-1 in the Interstate 8, while Western improves to 3-1, 2-1 in the league; those teams and Lumen Christi are in a three-way tie for second place behind undefeated Harper Creek.
Union City 39, (at) Quincy 0
QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The big cross-county battle between Quincy and Union City was decidedly one-sided, as the Chargers shut out the host Orioles 39-0.
Union City collected 402 total yard of offense, compared with 194 for Quincy. Josh Watson was 7/10 passing for 230 yards and 4 touchdowns while also rushing for 107 yards and a score on 7 carries. Austin Mosher had 11 carries for 33 yards and a touchdown. Blade Gordon had an 80-yard TD catch, Gavin Hooker had a 38-yard TD reception, Larson Kever had 2 catches for 36 yards and a touchdown, Garret Korn had a 14-yard TD reception, and Grady Kever had 2 catches for 60 yards. Colton Johns had 12 tackles and a fumble recovery, while Korn and Nick Delisle had 11 tackles apiece as the Chargers improve to 4-0 overall, 3-0 in the Big 8.
Quincy’s offense was led by Bryce Ruhl, who had 22 carries for 107 yards. Adam Santi had 5 total tackles as the Orioles drop to 3-1 overall, 2-1 in the Big 8.

BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – Bronson is still looking for its first win of the season, as Springport ran past the Vikings 56-6 at Charles Hilton Field.
