COLDWATER, MI (WTVB)- The Michigan Department of Transportation held an open house Tuesday at the Henry L. Brown Municipal Building in Coldwater to discuss a major road construction project which will take place in Branch County next summer.
Plans call for the repaving of U.S. 12 between Bronson and Coldwater along with the removal of the 81-year-old Indiana Northeastern railroad bridge which is over an inactive railroad.
MDOT Engineer Dharmesh Valsadia said the work is scheduled to start next May and will be done in two phases.
The first phase would involve overlaying Snow Prairie Road to prepare it to be part of the detour along with M-86.
The second phase involving work on U.S.12 would start in the middle of July.
Planning for the $3 million project started in 2010. The project is scheduled to go to bids in December.
