SPRINGPORT, MI (WTVB) – Late heroics help the Quincy Orioles gain a Big 8 Conference doubleheader split at Springport on Tuesday.
After a frustrating 4-2 loss in the first game in which all of the Springport runs were unearned, the Orioles rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning of the second game to take a 4-3 victory.
An RBI double by Ethan Copas cut the Springport lead to 3-2.
After an intentional walk to Grant Holroyd, who had hit his first career home run earlier in the game, Alex Barry delivered a clutch single that scored both the tying and winning runs.
Jimmy Maynard was the winning pitcher in relief. Mason Graves, Copas, Holroyd and Mickey Connin all had two hits.
Brennen Allman led the Quincy offense in the first game with three hits.
The Orioles are now 6-4 overall and 4-2 in the Big 8 Conference.
