COLDWATER TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – After a public hearing was held, the Coldwater Township Board of Trustees approved a solar energy facility exemption certificate to Coldwater River Solar on Monday night.
The purpose of the public hearing was to consider granting a certificate to Coldwater River Solar under the Solar Energy Facilities Taxation Act of 2023 related to lands owned by the applicant in Coldwater and Ovid Townships.
The Board approved a 20 year Payment in Lieu of Taxes agreement with APEX Clean Energy which provides Coldwater Township $2,000 per megawatt. The funds will then be distributed to the Township’s taxing entities.
Coldwater Township has 56.2 megawatts while Ovid Township has 93.75 megawatts.
A Community Benefit Agreement between APEX and Coldwater Township was also approved.
Construction on Apex Clean Energy’s Coldwater Solar project is expected to start sometime this summer.
The project bordered by Fenn Road to the north, Central Road to the south, Fillmore Road to the east and South Behnke Road to the west.
The company says the 150 megawatt project will generate enough clean energy to power about 27,000 homes annually.
That’s just great! More of our countryside littered with solar panels and don’t believe these estimates on power to 27,000 homes. That benefit agreement will be forgotten a few years from now.
