Mike was born December 7, 1972 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to Michael and Wendy (Reish) O’Reilly. He attended Union City Community Schools, graduated with the Class of 1991 and then attended Western Michigan University. Mike had worked for over 20 years with Galloup in Battle Creek, doing inside sales. He had previously been employed in construction.
On June 30, 2018, he married the former Tonya Maurer in 2018 in Union City. She survives.
Mike loved spending time with his family and friends. He watched a lot of sports and was a huge Notre Dame fan. He loved golf, was a member of the Marshall Country Club and played 1200 holes this year across multiple course. He was passionate about coaching sports. This was his third year coaching Girls Varsity Basketball at Union City High School. He had previously coached Union City girls JV basketball for four years and served as the Assistant Varsity girls softball coach, also at Union City. Additionally, he was part of Union City’s youth basketball program.
Mike was a happy person, very loving and a real sweetheart. He was always picking on people in a good-natured way and made things fun. He loved going to rock concerts – Verve Pipe, Ghost, Slipknot and Marilyn Manson, to name a few. He was known among friends by the nickname “Pizza” and had OCD when it came to the volume controls on electronic devices. He possessed outstanding organizational skills and was a great cook. Those closest to him knew he was flat out the best!
In addition to his wife, Tonya, Mike is survived by his children, Gavin Lee O’Reilly and Ava Olivia Rose O’Reilly; his father, Michael O’Reilly, Sr.; his siblings, Brianne (Chris Malesis) O’Reilly of Federal Way, WA and Ryan O’Reilly of Harlingen, TX; his in-laws, Stan and Linda Maurer of Athens; sister-in-law Ericka (Justin) Henckel of Athens and brother-in-law Dan (Karin) Maurer of Union City; nieces and nephews, Carly Guthrie, Brody Henckel, Jacob Maurer, Rebecca Maurer and Nathaniel Maurer; and many close cousins and friends.
Memorial donations are suggested to the Union City High School Athletic Department, 430 St. Joseph Street, Union City, MI 49094 for the girls basketball program.
