COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – There has been a transition in the artistic leadership at the Tibbits Opera House.
It was announced on Thursday that after four years of service, Artistic Director Peter Riopelle will be stepping back from his current position due to personal circumstances.
Chad Tallon will step into the role of Interim Artistic Director this summer.
According to a press release, Tibbits has seen remarkable growth and success, with critically acclaimed productions and a thriving artistic community during Riopelle’s time as Artistic Director.
He said, “It has been one of the greatest personal and professional honors of my life to have served this theatre and community for the past four years. Having helped lead Tibbits through the pandemic, restore her to a rich and thriving attendance, assembled some of the kindest, most diverse and talented companies ever, and presented some of our most successful and compelling productions to date, I hope I leave this beloved, sacred place healthy, thriving, and just a little better than I found her.”
Tallon has been a part of Tibbits for over a decade. He has served in various capacities within the theatre.
He said, “I owe so much of my success in this life to the people I’ve met in this community and the time I’ve spent here. While the job won’t be ‘simple,’ it will be something I cherish to provide positivity and a solid voice of leadership for this summer.”
Tibbits Executive Director Christine Delaney said, “We are saddened by the departure of Peter, whose contributions have been invaluable to Tibbits. We extend our deepest gratitude to him for his dedication and leadership over the years. As we bid farewell to one chapter, we welcome Chad, confident in his ability to uphold Peter’s legacy of excellence”.
