COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Due to the high rate of positive COVID-19 cases in Branch County, Coldwater Community Schools Superintendent Terry Ann Whelan has announced they will go to 100 percent Virtual Instruction for all K-12 students starting next Monday, November 30.
The virtual lessons will continue for the three weeks up to their winter break.
Whelan said, “We are optimistic that if everyone does their part to stay home, wear a mask in public, and practice social distancing, the positivity rates will go down and we will be able to return to face-to-face learning on January 4, 2021.”
She added that students will be bringing any materials home with them on Monday or Tuesday that they should need during this three-week period as well as an understanding of what Virtual Instruction will look like on a five-day schedule.
Students will need to check their Google Classroom every school day for their assignments. At this time, the Kids Club Daycare will remain open on their regular schedule but the Kinder Learning Academy will close until after the winter break.
The Wednesday food pickup will continue through December 16.
Whelan asked that everyone needs to be a part of getting COVID under control so they can get their students back to face to face instruction as soon as possible.
That includes following the CDC guidelines of wearing a mask, practice social distancing, frequently washing your hands, following capacity restrictions of social gatherings, covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue or with the inside of your elbow and immediately washing your hands, staying home if you are sick and answering the phone if the health department contacts you, as a contact tracer may be trying to reach you with important information.
