COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – An embezzlement case in Coldwater could mean significant prison time for a former Branch County man who was arrested this past weekend. 33-year old Michael Reincke was picked up by Coldwater City Police Sunday night in Clinton County, where he had been detained based on a warrant issued August 15, 2017 by the Branch County Prosecutor’s office.
Reincke is accused of failing to make a deposit in March of this year while he was employed at Boost Mobile in Coldwater. He was arraigned yesterday in District Court on one count of embezzlement not less than $1,000 and not more than $20,000, a five year felony. However, that term could be doubled because of Reincke’s habitual offender status. He was twice previously convicted in Branch County, in 2002 for breaking and entering and 2006 for home invasion first degree.
Coldwater City Police said the warrant indicated the alleged embezzlement committed by Reincke was in the amount of $1,234.
His next court appearance is scheduled for August 29, 2017 for a probable cause hearing. The court Monday set a $25,000 cash or surety bond for Reincke.
