PORTAGE, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater boys varsity soccer team opened its season with a pair of wins Saturday, beating Plainwell 3-1 and Paw Paw 4-0 in the Justin Bailey Memorial Shootout.
In the opening game against Plainwell, Jon Brownell, Nasser Nagi, and Saleh Mohamed each scored, with assists for Mubarick Said and Anas Asker. Balal Nasser made one save in goal, as Coldwater outshot Plainwell 12-2.
In the second game, Brownell scored a pair of goals, including one on a penalty kick, and also had an assist. Tyler Kooi had one goal and one assist, while Nasser Nagi scored the other goal. Anas Asker had another assist, with Balal Nasser making 3 saves in goal as the Cardinals outshot Paw Paw 10-3.
The Coldwater JV team won two games at the tournament, beating Plainwell 4-2 and Paw Paw 8-0.
Both team play Tuesday at Kalamazoo Central, with the JV game at 5:00 p.m. and the varsity at 6:45 p.m.
