RAY, IN (WTVB) – Four Montgomery residents were injured and a Fremont, Indiana man was arrested Wednesday night after a car crashed into a horse drawn carriage on Ray Road just south of the Michigan-Indiana line. The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department says the driver of the car, 22-year-old Brady Duvendack, was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury.
The accident happened just before 9:30 p.m. Both vehicles were heading north and deputies were told Duvendack’s car hit the back of the buggy causing all four occupants to be ejected.
13-year-old Benjamin Schmucker was flown from the scene by the Samaritan Helicopter with multiple injuries.
22-year-old Reuben Schmucker was taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
18-year-old Noah Schmucker and 23-year-old Jonathon Schmucker, who was the operator of the horse drawn carriage, were treated and released at the scene.
The accident remains under investigation.
