COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater B.P.U. Board of Directors approved a bid of over $1,442,000 from Parrish Excavating on Wednesday night to replace 121 lead service lines.
CBPU Water Superintendent Brian Musselman says in accordance with the Lead/Copper Rule set forth by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, water utilities are required to replace any lead or galvanized water service line that are, or have been previously, hooked to a lead service.
In order to help accomplish this, the CBPU received a grant from the State of Michigan’s Drinking Water State Revolving Fund.
Twelve hundred service lines were identified as meeting the criteria. Musselman says about $300,000 of the grant has been spent which has a deadline of September 2025.
The Parrish Excavating bid was one of three submitted.
