STEUBEN COUNTY, IN (WTVB) – Three persons from Pleasant Lake, Indiana were injured late Saturday night in a Steuben County head on crash.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department says it happened at about 11:16 p.m. on County Road 400 West near County Road 675 South.
According to a Sheriff’s Department news release, one of the drivers was pinned inside their vehicle, while the passenger of that vehicle was able to exit the vehicle on their own. The driver of the other vehicle was unable to exit their vehicle due to his injuries.
The Steuben County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team was activated to investigate the crash. They determined 33-year-old Mariano Diaz drove left of center and collided with a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Luke Newman.
Newman sustained lower leg injuries and was taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne by Steuben County EMS. Diaz was pinned in his vehicle and had to be extricated by Steuben Township Fire/Rescue. He was also taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center with leg injuries.
A passenger in the Diaz vehicle, 26-year-old Galindo Diaz, was taken by Parkview DeKalb EMS to Parkview Regional Medical Center with an arm injury.
It is believed alcohol was a factor in the crash which remains under investigation by Steuben County FACT.
Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene were the Angola Police Department, Ashley/Hudson Police Department, Indiana State Police, Steuben County EMS, Parkview DeKalb EMS and Ashley/Hudson Fire Rescue.
