COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners formally approved a request from Sherriff John Pollack on Tuesday to hire a part time, contracted employee in order to conduct investigative background checks.
The Sheriff’s Department found out in March from the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards that they had to conduct these extensive background checks for anyone who has been hired since 2023.
They currently have five background checks that must be completed under this new requirement, as well as the bailiff position in District Court.
Pollack says there is a potential candidate for the requested position, who is a certified officer, and has completed similar background investigations.
The individual will only do background checks on an as needed basis at a pay rate of over $28 per hour. The Commissioners plan to reevaluate the position in three months.
