COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – For many years, Coldwater has been known as the “Flag City” and that designation will be highlighted once again on Friday which is Flag Day.
The Coldwater Elks BPOE #1023 will host its annual Flag Day ceremony on Friday evening starting at 6:00 p.m..
Exalted Ruler Kathy Modert says the Coldwater Elks Lodge has celebrated Flag Day for over a century.
There will be a short program and the raising of a new flag. The Coldwater lodge will incorporate the presentation of eight flags from our nation’s history during the reading of the American Flag’s history.
President Woodrow Wilson recognized the Elks observance of June 14 as Flag Day in 1911.
President Harry Truman, who was a member of the Elks himself, signed a proclamation in 1949 that made Flag Day a national observance.
