BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Some of the hottest weather in recent years is expected to dominate the weather this week.
The National Weather Service in northern Indiana has issued an Excessive Heat Watch from Monday morning through Friday evening as forecasters are calling for dangerously hot conditions with heat index values around
100 degrees in portions of northern Indiana, southwest Michigan and northwest Ohio.
They say extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.
Heat indices into the mid to upper 90s are possible next weekend beyond the time of the watch. The prolonged nature of the event may magnify impacts in the latter portions of the week.
Residents are being urged to monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates on this situation. Be prepared to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
