Eric Tulsky was named the fourth general manager of the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday and 10th in franchise history.
Tulsky has served as the team’s assistant general manager since 2020 and held the position on an interim basis since Don Waddell resigned on May 24. Waddell joined the Columbus Blue Jackets four days later as their president of hockey operations and general manager.
“Eric is ready for this opportunity,” Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon said. “He has a proven history of managing people and overseeing operations both outside of hockey and over the last decade with the Hurricanes. His dedication, work ethic and attention to detail make him the ideal candidate to become our next general manager.
“Everything we do here is collaborative, and Eric will work closely with (assistant) Darren Yorke, (coach) Rod Brind’Amour and our leadership team to continue building a championship-caliber hockey club.”
Tulsky, who has a doctorate in chemistry from California-Berkeley, joined the Hurricanes as a consultant in 2014. His fingerprints have been all over the team in terms of player personnel decisions, scouting and other hockey-related matters.
The Hurricanes won three straight division titles (2021-23) and finished in second place in the Metropolitan Division this season after posting a 52-23-7 record. They were eliminated in six games by the New York Rangers in an Eastern Conference semifinal series.
