BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The National Weather Service has extended the Heat Advisory which has been in effect for Branch and surrounding counties through Saturday evening.
The unusually long Heat Advisory went into effect on Monday morning as the region is experiencing its longest heat wave in over a decade. Another 24 hours was tacked onto the heat advisory as highs on Saturday are forecast to be in the low 90s.
Some relief is expected to arrive on Sunday when highs will only be in the mid 80s.
Wednesday’s high temperature as recorded at the Branch County Memorial Airport was 90 degrees. The heat index topped out at 96.
Monday’s high in Coldwater of 92 degrees as recorded at the Branch County Memorial Airport missed the record high by three degrees.
It was not as hot on Tuesday as clouds that hung around for most of the day kept the temperature down. The high at the airport on Tuesday was 88.
Residents are still being urged to take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses for the rest of the week with heat index readings between 95 and 100.
Meanwhile, portions of northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio are under an excessive heat warning through Saturday evening where dangerously hot conditions are expected to lead to heat index values as high as 102.
Low temperatures in the 70s at night will provide little relief from the heat.
