HILLSDALE COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – A built-in parachute saved the lives of two persons on Wednesday as a small airplane had to make an emergency landing in Hillsdale County.
Michigan State Police from the Jackson post report a pilot instructor and a student were practicing maneuvers as they flew over Moshverville and Rainey Roads when the plane shut down and would not start again.
Attempts to restart the plane were unsuccessful so the built-in plane parachute was deployed by the two persons on board which allowed them to control the fall.
The plane made what is called a hard landing. No injuries were reported. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
The names of the two persons on board were not released. The plane is reportedly registered to Western Michigan University.
