COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Zoning Board of Appeals approved a request from Elmet Technologies on Jay Street on Wednesday for a development site standard variance so they can construct a driveway without an improved surface within the D-2 Heavy Industrial Zoning District.
City Planner and Neighborhood Services Director Jake Van Boxel said in his report to the Z.B.A. that Elmet Technologies intends to build a solar panel field on the property with a driveway approaching the site from Butters Avenue between the CBPU substation and railroad tracks.
After discussion, Z.B.A. Chair Gordon Swan reviewed what they were voting on.
Van Boxel said the staff felt this variance request should be granted due to the infrequent nature of use and the lack of need to pave.
