LANSING, MI (WTVB) – According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, vulnerable road users are killed or seriously injured at a faster rate than those operating motor vehicles, according to MDOT. In 2022, Michigan reported 1,897 pedestrian-involved crashes that killed 173 people, and 1,340 bicycle-involved crashes that killed 36 people.
There is a new 15-question online survey for residents to share their thoughts about the “conditions and behaviors present in fatal and serious injury crashes” on state roads involving walkers, bikers, and users of other forms of non-motorized transportation.
MDOT is also hosting a series of public open houses as a means to give state officials feedback and help them reduce risks and anticipate mistakes that can result in serious injuries or death.
The “Vulnerable Road User Safety Assessment Survey” is available on the state’s website. Submissions are available through Aug. 18, according to a Tuesday, June 18, announcement from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT).
