COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The City of Coldwater’s redesign and reconstruction of downtown parking lots in recent years is now focusing on the Chandler Plaza on the southwest side of the US 12-Division Street intersection. Dean Walrack, Engineering Services Administrator for the City of Coldwater, spoke about redesign concepts for the plaza at Thursday’s meeting of the Coldwater Township Sunrise Rotary Club. Walrack said it’s a roughly 3 acre site and questioned whether the city can re-do the parking lot in a fashion that would be expected from a private developer.
According to Walrack, the private development standards would address any storm water ordinance, parking requirements, and landscaping and vegetation requirements. The bottom line, Walrack told the Rotarians, can the city as a public entity hold itself to the same standards it expects a private developer to be accountable for. Reconstruction of the Chandler Plaza is scheduled for 2018. Public input on the parking lot and public uses for the plaza will be taken at Monday’s City Planning Commission meeting with the comments forwarded to the Coldwater City Council.
