COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Some much needed rain fell on Coldwater late Thursday afternoon ending a ten day dry spell.
The rain started at the Branch County Memorial Airport at around 5:00 p.m. and lasted into the early evening.
Accuweather.com reports nine-hundredths of a inch was officially measured for Coldwater on Thursday but there were unofficial reports nearly an inch fell on the area early Friday morning as a line of strong thunderstorms with intense lightning moved across Branch County.
Branch County Central Dispatch reports it took no trouble calls.
There was a report in the City of Coldwater at 4 a.m. of a large tree blocking Sauk River Drive across from the Whispering Pines Apartment Complex. The street was closed for around 45 minutes to allow city crews to remove the tree and limb debris.
Up until Thursday, only 44-hundredths of a inch of rain had fallen in Coldwater over the last three weeks.
Nothing has changed on the U.S. Drought Monitor map from last week. The latest report released on Thursday shows the western half of Branch County is still part of an area in southern Lower Michigan that is still considered to be abnormally dry.
