COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In light of the tragedy which recently took place at the Ohio State Fair, officials with the Branch County Fair want to assure everyone that the rides on the midway will be checked out by state inspectors before they begin operating.
Branch County Commissioner Leonard Kolcz said during Thursday’s Commissioner Work Session that the matter was discussed during the Wednesday Fair Board meeting.
Kolcz said what happened in Columbus, Ohio when a Marine recruit was killed was a freak accident. He added the manufacturer has shut down the ride and it would not been at the Branch County Fair anyway since it was operated by a different carnival.
The Branch County Fair officially opens at 12noon on Sunday. The midway rides will begin operating on Monday during Dollar Day at the Fair.
