UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – There were three traffic accidents with injuries over the weekend called into Branch County Central Dispatch with the most serious crash occurring just outside Union City late Sunday afternoon.
A Ford F-250 pickup truck driven by a 16-year old girl was eastbound on U Drive South when she lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree near 8 Mile Road in Calhoun County’s Burlington Township. Deputies say a 16-year old male passenger was partially ejected from the pickup. He was flown by Air Care to Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo while the girl was transported by ambulance to Bronson Battle Creek Hospital.
No names have been released and there’s no word on the conditions of the two teenagers. Alcohol or drugs are not suspected as being a factor at this time while the accident remains under investigation by the Calhoun County Accident Reconstruction Division. Deputies were assisted by the Union City and Burlington Township Fire Departments.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Department handled a minor injury collision between a car and a pickup truck late Sunday morning on Union City Road south of Bidwell Road in Girard Township.
And no serious injuries were reported just before 1 a.m. Sunday when a race car hit a wall at Butler Motor Speedway. Michigan State Police and the Quincy Fire Department were sent to the track on Clarendon Road but they both cleared the scene a short time later. No news releases were issued on either of those two accidents.
