COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – With record one day rainfall earlier this week, officials with the North Chain Lake Association in Branch County are encouraging boaters to wait to enjoy the water until lake levels decrease.
Association President Tom Duff says the entire chain of lakes should be treated as a no wake zone, not just the normal channels.
He says wakes can cause property and boat damage for which the person on the lake may be liable. In addition, the higher levels increase debris in the water that can be difficult to see at high speed levels and may cause injury to your boat and passengers.
The City of Coldwater received over just over four inches of rain in a 24 hour period from Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday afternoon. Some areas north and south of the city received over 4.5 inches, causing lake levels to rise higher than they have been for many years.
