JONESVILLE, MI (WTVB) – The owner of a popular Jonesville restaurant says he will reopen the restaurant on Saturday morning in order to stay in business in light of the latest state-mandated shutdown of dine-in service during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Mitch Spangler said in a post on Facebook that Spangler’s Family Restaurant on U.S. 12 will provide full dine-in, take-out and delivery service.
He explained, “It’s now do or die time….. The first shutdown hit us hard. We only recently were starting to recover. However, this time we are not going to be able to make it through and stay open on only take-out and delivery.”
He pointed out that within the last three years he has invested over $500,000 in the Jonesville Community with the renovation and opening of the Family Restaurant building and the remodeling of the Hilltop Creamery.
Spangler says this decision is not being made out of greed as he employs between 25 and 30 people who depend on this business to earn a living. His 78 year old mother’s home and life depends on income from the business as well.
He adds, “It is being made out of simple and complete necessity. There’s no government bailout or support.”
Spangler understands some people will be angry and disappointed in his decision since he was a Paramedic for 15 years and had to leave the profession due to an injury. But he says every precaution will be taken. That includes an electrostatic fogger that will be applied to a non toxic oxygen based disinfectant that deep cleans and kills the COVID-19 virus in three minutes.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services announced a three-week closure of dine-in service at bars and restaurants in Michigan on November 15 in an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19. The current order is in effect until December 8. Spangler says he has retained legal counsel.
So great to see so many Patriots who love America and Michigan and want to help small businesses stay afloat! The food is great, but the coconut cream pie is FANTASTIC!
You think you are better then all the people in the world.
