QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Quincy’s new Police Chief is now trying to fill several openings in his department.
Dalton Turmell has been on the job for several weeks. He interviewed a candidate for a part-time position but at last word, no one has been hired yet.
Village Manager Brittney Butler reported to the Village Council last week that Turmell has also been busy conducting an inventory of the entire department as well as getting miscellaneous items and programs switched over into his name.
The Quincy Village Council decided in April to keep the village’s police department after accepting a proposal from Butler to reduce the number of full time officers from three to two. The department would also have a part-time officer, a LEIN tech, and a crossing guard.
She said at the time that eliminating a third full-time officer position would “allow for deserved wage increases to become more competitive in the current job market.”
In deciding to keep the police department, the Village Council accepted Butler’s proposal to increase the Police Chief salary without benefits from just over $61,000 to $70,000.
When the benefits are included, the salary would increase to over $106,000.
