UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – It now appears both parents of a 2-1/2-year-old Union City girl who tested positive for morphine are facing 2nd degree child abuse charges for allegedly exposing the child to illicit drugs. 22-year-old Nicholas Platek also faces a heroin possession count.
Branch County court documents show that Jamie Platek actually reported her estranged husband to police when he brought drugs into the home and she found her 2 year old holding part of a syringe. She subsequently admitted that she had also taken drugs this spring.
Her two children, the little girl and an 18-month-old boy have both been removed from the home by Child Protective Services.
