COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Michigan State Police investigation has led to nine charges being filed against a former Coldwater resident for alleged sex crimes involving children in Branch and St. Joseph County that date back to 2008.
54-year-old David Michael Miller of LaGrange, Indiana was arraigned on Saturday in Branch County District Court on three counts of third degree criminal sexual conduct and three counts of fourth degree criminal sexual conduct.
He has also been charged with two counts of gross indecency between males and a count of accosting children for immoral purposes.
According to Branch County court records, Miller is also known as Michael Robert Rottenstein.
The two alleged victims were 11 or 12 years old at the time the alleged crimes started.
They told State Police Detective Sergeant Matt Berry about many alleged coerced sexual acts by the defendant over a span of years in both Ohio and Indiana in a five page probable cause affidavit.
A warrant for Miller’s arrest was issued by Branch County District Court on July 10.
A not guilty plea was entered by the court on behalf of the defendant during his arraignment and Miller was appointed an attorney through the public defender’s office.
Bond was set at $500,000 cash or surety. Miller was ordered not to have any contact with the two alleged victims if he should post bond.
A probable cause hearing was scheduled for August 6 with a preliminary exam set for August 12.
