COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The field of candidates to be the next Branch County Administrator has been trimmed to three.
Branch County Commissioners decided during their work session on Thursday morning to bring back Lakeland Correctional Facility administrative manager John Morrell, assistant St. Joseph County administrator Jessica Miller and Meridian Township manager Frank Walsh for the next round of interviews on August 27.
The decision came after the Commissioners interviewed six candidates on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Walsh was the only unanimous selection among the five Commissioners.
Morrell and Miller were both invited back on 4-1 votes. Commission Chair Tim Stoll voted against Morrell while Commissioner Jon Houtz voted against Miller.
The other three candidates were eliminated on 4-1 votes.
Chet Janik from the Michigan Leadership Institute is helping in the search for a new County Administrator. He said the three candidates will meet with county employees before they are interviewed by Commissioners.
He added some other items have to be taken care of before the 27th.
Commissioners decided on the August 27 date since they were already scheduled to have a regular meeting on that day.
Whoever is selected will succeed Bud Norman as County Administrator as he is retiring when his contract runs out at the end of the year.
