SAO PAULO (Reuters) – China’s commerce chamber CFNA said on Wednesday that starting Aug. 2 restrictions on Brazilian poultry sales only apply to products from Rio Grande do Sul state, which had an isolated outbreak of Newcastle disease last month.
Speaking on the sidelines of a food conference in Sao Paulo, CFNA Vice President Madame Yu Lu cited a statement from the Chinese customs authority and the ministry of agriculture and rural affairs on Wednesday.
Under a self embargo, Brazil had suspended issuing Brazilian suppliers health certificates to export poultry products to China from July 19, she said.
Brazilian poultry and pork lobby ABPA said it had not received any official information from Brazilian authorities on reducing the embargo to only Rio Grande do Sul.
In an emailed statement, the Brazilian agriculture ministry did not comment on the most recent position from Chinese customs authorities. The ministry said nationwide restrictions on Brazilian poultry exports remain for China, Mexico and Argentina.
